This is a response to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! about the Honda commercial. Apparently she doesn’t like it because a little red hatchback was replaced with a beige CRV. Sure, it was “sad” as a car enthusiast to see someone’s childhood car drive away and be replaced with the evil beige monster. But listen to this.
It goes without saying that Jalops hate minivans. To them, minivans are probably their equivalent to Satan himself. It’s a “dead enthusiast’s” car, I guess.
But you want to know what my childhood car was? A green 2000 Honda Odyssey LX.
Yep, this was it. Not that exact one, but it looks exactly like the one I grew up with. Plenty of great memories in that car. We sold it after ten years of duty, and I couldn’t have been sadder to see it go. Hell, we also had a Lexus LX450 and a 1986 Toyota Celica, but the Odyssey was my favorite of the three by far.
Yeah, that beige CRV may seem like “the harbinger of doom,” but it will be another’s childhood car. Memories will be made in it despite its classification or color.
Honestly this sort of fanboy-ism is what I despise about car enthusiasts. At the end of the day they’re all just appliances. Don’t tear yourself up over irrelevant concerns.

They wanted it to look good for the commercial. If it were realistic it’d be driving around on its drums.

Same for mine. Ours was gold and had the power sliding doors. It had many, many dents from being driven by a dozen or so au pairs over the decade and a half it lived. It ended up being my first car, which I wasn’t too upset about since there was no way for my parents to tell if I had been in an accident. It even had VTEC, YO.
Eventually donated it to NPR when the third transmission melted. I might have cried a little watching it get towed away.

They pulled it out of their collection.

So they didn’t keep the old Civic and give it to the kids because that would be ripping off a Subaru commercial?
This ad is confusing in so many ways. Do the new CR-V’s even have third rows? Or did they just trade out cramming three kids in one row for cramming three kids in one row with its own doors?
I have another burner, try to guess it!

I consider cars tools, the best one is the one for the job. If you can get by with a fun car, do it. But if you need a truck, get a truck; if you need a minivan, get a minivan.

It’s a hell of an improvement over a two-door 90's Civic hatchback.

...BUT, BUT, BUT THE CIVIC STARTS CRYING AT 2:01!!!1!1!!1!!
I agree with you really though - all cars, regardless of what they are, have stories to tell, and mean something to somebody. When I grew up, my parents shuttled me around in old Citroens and Fiestas, which at the time, I hated, since most other kids’ parents seemed to have cars that were ‘better’ in some way, but looking back, they weren’t bad at all, and I have lots of fond memories of all of them.

I think the problem is that it’s biege. They could’ve had it be in basque red, motlen lava, or obsidian blue.

A minivan serves its purpose and does it well. It has no pretensions. Only a complete sucker can hate that. The SUV, which has all but replaced the humble, efficient minivan, should be derided for foregoing function in the name of the frail ego of the owner.
God I hate SUVs and I am sure that in twenty years the SUV will be a punchline for this time.
My parents had a 2001 Ford Windstar with the Vulcan v6. I really liked that car.

Honestly that shade of beige isn’t a bad look at all.

Those comments are crazy. The CR-V is king, from pricing to interior space to features, when it comes to crossovers.

The front page is awfully disconnected from reality. You can have memories in any car. My Camry is boring, but I’ve had my fair share of memories and none of them were the “my car died in a shady part of Sacramento and wouldn’t restart” kind.
